Sparks of gold in your dreamy eyes,
Under eyebrows like fir-tree boughs...
Mating grouse in my fancy arise
When I hear your unhurried, soft o's...
So fresh, so sweet and somehow so dear
Are your lips with corners upturned;
Full of pristine Vologdan strength
Are your big hands with rings unadorned.
Tall beneath my window you pass;
Your stature's so much to my heart !
Just to look at your with your golden braids
Is like seeing one's native part.
If ever you sank in a river,
I know I'd rescue you, my friend.
Even a dark sea billow
wouldn't arouse my fear.
If ever a beast in the forest
Dragged you off to its lair---
I'd find it out of a hundred;
The road that would lead me there.
To a nine-headed dragon
I would find the way too,
And from the hands of the Skeleton King
I will manage to rescue you.
But you haven't sunk in a river,
Nor were you caught by a beast,
Into my heart you've sunken;
You're safe, but I've lost my peace...
