Small habits, well pursued betimes, May reach the dignity of politic...

Fairy - Tales

The blizzard whirled the world.
again it snowed, in crazy pellets
Or in fuzzy flakes.
Fresh paths for light to reach the windows low
More often wooden spades were forced to make.

It scarcely cleared
when well-cranes started creaking,
and housewives drew fresh water with a pail.
Then from its tether broke the blizzard bleakly,
Again above the forest trees to wail.

On days like these all journeys we forget.
It's good to get together in one home
And smoke, and weave the artel fishing net,
And sing our songs - there's always time for some ! -
And joke and dream of halcyon days to come.

A pair of magic boots would do tonight.
A flying carpet and a lusty bay
No snow-blocked roads, no blizzards can dismay,
Who, only tell him: run along! -and the way
No cold, no jolts to blemish your delight.

"MITT  TROLL"
Tell us a tale, good soul !

And, moving to the table of rough pine,
Flattered again to be so honored by them all,
"MITT TROLL"
Once upon a time...

The men kept smoking,
While the snow still fell, meantime.
