Feed the Birds...

Feed the birds in wintertime's:
No matter where they roam,
To your cottage they will flock
As if to their own home.

Birds don't need much food to live-
Some grain is all you have to give-
Just a handful
From your barn or draw
To help them winter
Without harm.

No counting all the birds that die
In our frosty winter.
In our hearts for birds as well
We should find some warmth.

Can we possibly forget
They could fly away,
Yet they spend the winter here.
With us men they stay.

To your windowsill in frost
Teach the birds to fly
So you won't be without songs
when spring days come by.
